Description
Overview of Iron Profile with Ferritin Test
The Iron Profile with Ferritin Test measures iron levels in the blood to assess ...
iron deficiency, anemia, or iron overload conditions. It includes tests for serum iron, total iron-binding capacity (TIBC), transferrin saturation, and ferritin levels. This test helps diagnose anemia, hemochromatosis, and other iron-related disorders.
Normal Range for Iron Profile with Ferritin Test
- Serum Iron: 60–170 µg/dL (micrograms per deciliter)
- Total Iron-Binding Capacity (TIBC): 240–450 µg/dL
- Transferrin Saturation: 20%–50%
- Ferritin Levels:
- Men: 30–400 ng/mL
- Women: 13–150 ng/mL
- Children: 7–140 ng/mL
Before Test Preparation
- Fasting is recommended for 8-12 hours before the test.
- Avoid iron supplements for at least 24 hours before sample collection.
- Drink water to stay hydrated.
- Inform the doctor about any medications, as certain drugs may affect iron levels.
