Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD) is a hormonal disorder common among women of reproductive age. It is characterized by the presence of multiple small cysts on the ovaries, irregular menstrual cycles, and elevated levels of male hormones (androgens). Symptoms can include weight gain, acne, excessive hair growth, and infertility. The exact cause of PCOD is unknown, but it is linked to insulin resistance, inflammation, and genetic factors. Diagnosis typically involves ultrasound imaging and blood tests. Treatment focuses on managing symptoms and may include lifestyle changes, medications to regulate menstrual cycles, and fertility treatments for those seeking pregnancy.
